Grow Room
· Is there a formula for Cooling a room?
Good question Man! Most of the rules are for homes and offices. A little different to places like the 28,000 watt site above. Rule of thumb for grow rooms, get MORE capacity than you need. Better that, than losing a crop! 3 steps to consider: 1. Amount of heat generated? Duct lights. Get rid of a high percentace of the heat. 2. Latent Heat rating of units being considered? Air Condioners (incl Heat pump type) are rated for "Latent Load", for example 6kW. Where there is lots of heat generation, divide that by 6 (equals 1kW) for "Sensible" Load. 3. Sensible Load rating and number required? If you have 28000 watts of lights, get cooling ducts for them first. Then, with moderate/high vegetation, you may have a 30-50% (60-75% without ducting) heat retention. Effective heat creation= wattage of lights x % for leaf: i.e., 28kW x 30% =8.4kW. Or, x50% = 14kW that needs cooling . Non ducted, moderate leaf cover: 28kW x 60% = 16.8kW, or x 75% = 21kW Cooling req'd. Make sure you duct lights with forced air to all lights, then use 15kW "Sensible Load" (50%) {90kW Latent Load!} airconditioning. AND,... LOTS of overhead air circulation fans for both cool air mixing and CO2 mixing and circulation. So,... summarising............ Wattage of lights x .3/.5/.6/.75 = Watts Heat. Sensible Load Cooling (Latent rate /6) has to be greater than Heating. One or several coolers to overcome the heat. Example: 3000 watts lights, no ducting. 75% heat retention = 2250watts. Air cond unit of 6kW "Latent" rating = 1kW "Sensible". So,.. 2 machines required. Good luck to you all. Happy Cropping dudes. Harvest Master
